Q & A

How do you define UX design?

UX design is about using empathy to make products or services that are intuitive, user-friendly and fun to use. It involves understanding the desires, goals, and behaviors of users, and using that information to create interfaces that are simple and meet their needs. UX design includes activities like researching users, making user personas, wireframing, prototype testing of how easy products are to use, and making changes based on feedback. The aim is to design products that users will enjoy and find valuable.

How do you balance the goals of the end user with those of the business?

The most efficient and easiest way to hear out and understand the needs of both sides would be conducting interviews with stakeholders, and then naturally with the users.
Through interviewing the stakeholders, we will understand their mindset about this project, their approach and understanding of upcoming process, as well as their expectations. This will draw out a picture of the goals and what the business wants to achieve through the product/service. Once the project development is kicked off, we will go through the similar process with the potential users, getting to know their needs as the consumers. At this point, it should become clear, how to find the common ground, where both parties are heard and their expectations satisfied.

Who do you follow, admire, and are inspired by in the industry?

I get inspired on social media, checking out Youtubers such as Kim Alban or Jesse Showalter. I find an inspiration everywhere: be it Pinterest and Dribble, but also VR, video games or simply my surrounding. I find inspiration in my mentor and coworkers and deeply admire their accomplishments and ability to synthesize their learnings. I believe in learning from others and want to continue polishing my skills in UX Design as well as further explore my interest in video games UX/UI as well as other newly emerging trends like AR and VR.

What’s the most challenging part of your research projects?

I consider understanding the users, their needs, motivations and pain points to be most challenging, as in my opinion it is also the most important part of the process. It is quite literally a foundation of the whole project, that defines its shape, functions, features, etc. Without proper consultation with potential users, people we design for (interviews, surveys, observing) , the project would be possibly doomed to fail, because one can’t deliver a needed product/service, if one doesn’t know what is needed.
